Man and Nature Living in Harmony

The UNESCO Man and the Biosphere (MAB) programme, which was established in 1971, is an intergovernmental framework that aims to lay the scientific foundations to improve the relationship between Man and the environment.

The MAB Programme merges the practical application of natural and social sciences, economics and education to protect biodiversity, natural and man-made ecosystems, promoting the sustainable development of territories from an economic, social and environmental perspective.

THE BIOSPHERE RESERVE

The Italian Julian Alps Biosphere Reserve was established in June 2019 and includes the territory of 11 municipalities in the mountainous region of Friuli Venezia Giulia:
Artegna, Chiusaforte, Dogna, Gemona del Friuli, Lusevera, Moggio Udinese, Montenars, Resia, Resiutta, Taipana and Venzone.

Based on the initiative of the Julian Pre-Alps Regional Nature Park, it encompasses an area of over 700 km2 that descends from Mounts Montasio and Canin to the northern edge of the Friulian plain.
It is a crossroads of nature and culture, rich in species, habitats and landscapes, located on the border between the Latin and Slavic worlds.
