A Biosphere Reserve without borders between Italy and Slovenia<\/p>\n

The Julian Alps had already been recognized as separate Biosphere Reserves in Slovenia in 2003 and in Italy in 2019. Today, this artificial division has been overcome with the recognition of the new Julian Alps Transboundary Biosphere Reserve: a territory covering a total of 277,000 hectares. <\/p>\n
The Triglav National Park and the Julian Prealps Regional Nature Park, as coordinators of the two reserves, jointly prepared the application dossier and organized a series of meetings to involve local stakeholders (local authorities, associations, entrepreneurs, schools, universities, and research institutions) in the drafting process. These stakeholders produced 82 letters of support. <\/p>\n

The Julian Alps Transboundary Biosphere Reserve was officially designated on July 5 in Agadir, Morocco, during the 36th Session of the International Coordinating Council of UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere (MaB) Program.<\/p>\n
